Wonderful. Ali says things we are all thinking but too afraid to verbalize. Funny and witty retools of classic songs as well as some that will become oldies but goodies.

Ali Bee provided the lyrics and music for a magical evening spent at the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival despite not being there. Women who knew and loved songs on this album began a rousing singalong among about 40 women in the woods in August 2015, and feedback since then has been that it was many women’s (me included) favorite night of the week-long festival.Michfest is no more, but the radical feminist and gender critical music plays on in “Not Drowning, But Second Waving”.

Ali, I love ya to pieces for all your passion and talent, but I had to drop a star because fighting prostitution is my life’s work and I was eagerly anticipating a turn towards more johnstomping songs in the mix. If women are lucky, you’ve just been saving them up for your upcoming sophomore release.

Great feminist folk music. Just Cells, He Wears a Fedora and Gender Queer had me laughing out loud, and Forged in Fire was great listening and made me want to sing along. Born Just Girl has an important message about how we justify men’s violence against women and children. A greater variety of chord combinations and song structures would improve the album overall, however this doesn’t overshadow the braveness of the lyrics and the brilliance of the stand-out tracks. I strongly recommend that feminists check out this album, particularly the above-mentioned tracks.

Excellent lyrics. I love, “we’re not holes we’re whole women”.

Delightful, powerful, and strong! Ali pours her heart and soul into these songs and her devotion to women comes through clear as a day. Her lyrics are witty and her messages are brave. She sings what many are too afraid to whisper; listening to her music is like listening to magic. This is a wonderful album to add to your collection, as well as one that would make excellent gifts for the women you love!
